Pre RWMF 2013 : BORNEO WORLD MUSIC EXPO

Less than a week to go to the Rainforest World Music Festival which will start from the 28th to 30th of June 2013 at Sarawak Cultural Village. This event is organised by The Sarawak Tourism Board for 16 years now and has been voted for the 4th consecutive year in 2013, as one of the 25 best International Festivals by the renowned world music magazine, Songlines.
On the 24th to 26th of June at The Pullman Hotel, in the capital city of Kuching, Sarawak, The Sarawak Tourism Board will organise an Expo that will integrate a trade fair, musical showcases, conferences, exhibitions and networking sessions which would promote the culture and music. It is specifically designed to expose Asian and ethnic musicians to the international market. It brings together the worlds of traditional, ethnic, folk and roots music. It's called Borneo World Music Expo.
Quote from the press release also stated that being a musician or a band is not just about playing music but is also about how to present and market the music, the image and the branding. It’s about how to get one’s information and music to the right people. On the other side of the coin, programmers need to have a big pool with vast variety to consider and to choose from when it comes to selecting the line-up for their events. The Borneo World Music Expo is just about bringing the two parties together where they will have a chance to show and tell and buy and sell.
Along with attracting delegates and exhibitors from all over the ASEAN region, we have invited 20 international world music programmers who will be here to share their skills at conferences, meet the delegates informally and in specially-designed one-on-one encounters and hear great music. These are professionals chosen for their interest in and history of booking artists from all over the world to appear at their festivals and venues throughout Asia, Europe, North America and elsewhere.
This Expo will kick off on the 24th June with the opening night and showcase of 2 groups, one from Sarawak. This will be followed by 2 full days of conferences in the morning and afternoon followed by showcases at night. These will be for all registered delegates.
Those interested to sign up as delegates to the conference can still do so. The delegate fee is RM 360 inclusive of conference materials, lunch and 2 tea breaks. For the public who are interested in watching the night showcases, tickets can be bought online or at the entrance and the cost of these shows are only RM 30. as a musician myself, this event is very much close to the heart. Wish i could participate but im to far away haha...sayang eh,nangga pun jadi lah kan haha
