Last week when I was at work... Busy and stack under lots of paperwork...

Received this shocking message:
"Ini ayah Tolong bagi topped up 50RM ke nombor baru ayah 0128113586 ayah ada masalah di balai police. ta payah call sekejap ayah call blik. From : +60128115989
[Read : This dad Please help to topped up RM50 to my number 0128113586 i have problem now in police station. Dont call me i will call back later]"

First thought. A bit shocking~!!

In a splash, I remember a crucial fact about my father... He cant write text or SMSing... [ even reading it will bring a little trouble to him ]... I called him on his number - no answer but I know my old man need to do a ritual before answering his call which is 'Scanning'. LOL

I called home and voila~!! He himself answered. Case closed! Lucky me.

Yet, I still not understand WHY somebody still falls for this scam?

[Read : phone SMS scam ask for top-up credit, two victims loss RM8000]

Let alone RM50... it's freaking RM8000? Meaning each victim has top-up RM50 80 times!! It should stop at least by the first RM50... I mean if it's our own family members (this scam sometimes also using sister, brother, uncle etc...) - surely we can always counter-check, right?
There's also a scam that sends SMS to the family members or to husband or wife asking for credit card number or ATM password using that person handphone which steals earlier. Pathetic yes?

STEPS TO AVOID USELESS SCAM :

1. Once received any distress message, take a deep breath.

2. Re-read the message. Note the writing style. -
Example : If your sister usually used 'AKU', or your father usually called himself 'Daddy' surely will bring lots of question marks if the message says, otherwise. Right?

3. Call the person or next-of-kin of the person to make sure the message is valid.

4. Spread the words to friends and families about this scam. Let everyone knows about this scam (or any other scams)

My prayer goes out to all, please be alert and don't just simply trust any message came in. You never know.

NTGravity : Luckily I'm not the girl with that so much money...~♥

Saw it many times... Happen many times to me but...
It's the first time happening to me... or my family...
The infection spread after years of courtship to my sister and finally it's infected my father, my mother, my brother.. and Me... it's called LOVE...

So the next stage in a relationship... Engagement...!
Never imagine the 'sweat' and 'pain' doing the preparation... Lot's of a decision to be done, an argument to be settles and other more. Well, it's part of the learning process right?

Everybody sure will experience this. The day you might fall in front of people (maybe really lots of people or in front of your crush... ), the day when somebody accidentally spilt their drink on you... or a combo of fall from stairs and landed right on a poop... or even worst super combo when you walking yourself way home, out of sudden it's raining.. heavily... and drenched your thin white t-shirt. Soon after that, a car passes by and drenched you with dirt puddles... Talking about bad luck yea?

Taken from this book ;
"Stupid History: Tales of Stupidity, Strangeness, and Mythconception -
Throughout the Ages. Page 257"

A Voyage of Titanic Proportions

It's either a case of the worst luck in history or maybe the best you ever heard about this...

✿ In 1829 A ship called The Mermaid was four days away from her destination of Sydney, Australia, when a massive storm struck and drove the ship into a reef. All twenty-two people on board survived and were able to swim to safety.

✿ Three days later, the Swiftsure rescued them.

✿ Five days later, the Swiftsure sank.

✿ Victims from both ships were rescued by the schooner Governor Ready

✿ Three hours later, the Governor Ready caught fire

✿ The Comet pulled everyone from the lifeboats and brought them aboard.

✿ Five days later, the Comet sank. (The crew went for help in the longboat, leaving the passengers floating in the water)

✿ Eighteen hours later, the mail boat Jupiter pulled everyone out of the ocean.

✿ In under twelve hours, Jupiter sank.

✿ Everyone was rescued by the passenger's vessel The city of Leeds.

✿ Four days later, The City of Leeds docked in Sydney, Australia.

The bad luck was that five ships were lost - the good luck was that not a single person died~!

NTGravity: Moral of the story, never to say your life is bad... there are others even worst!

[ First Entry ] of Tribes Connexion

Arrived a bit late at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), just in time for a video showing by Lars Krutak - it's about Mentawai Tattoo. Really interesting~d(*⌒▽⌒*)b!

Lars Krutak talks about Mentawai Tattoo

Six-hour journey to meet the Mentawai Tribes

After the show - Lars Krutak opens the floor for a question or two but everybody wants to see his Mentawai tattoo on his thigh and start to bombard him with questions especially about his adventure. I missed capturing it - although I sit in front of him. Yet, I've seen it live too...
( ゚∀゚)アハハ八八ノヽノヽノヽノ \ / \/ \.

After that, the event stopped for a break before another cultural show - but I can't wait due to another arrangement...
Before I left there are two cultural shows - Ngajat Miring and a Bidayuh Dance.

In many portraits in the exhibition - I love this one! Can you feel the pride in her?

✿.a.:* *.:a.✿ D A Y  T W O ✿.a.:* *.:a.✿

Arrived at BCCK around 2pm - met other Sarawak Bloggers in person [ Irene: Sweet Surrender,  Desmond : Pledge: A Promise of Hope and Norman Goh ] - all very young and success... :)
The Opening Ceremony starts off with Iban Tribe called Miring.

Even this is live reconstruction.. but his expression looks real~!
(‐^▽^‐)オーホッホ

The purpose of doing Miring, generally as making an offering as I recalled [Thanks to my friend for the memories... lalalala~] - it's either to seek blessing or for good health, fortune or even peace. Miring also to seek forgiveness and protection, give honour to Gods or souls of their dead ancestors and some other more.

Usually, on the tray (made of copper), you will find tobacco weed & cigar wrapper (made from palm leaves), betel leaf and condiments, Eggs, a small cup of rice wine, feathers of a chicken used during prayer will be plucked out and dipped in its blood when it is killed (YES, luckily it's not happened this time!) and some other (sorry - it's been a while I forgot the details....)

Man of the Show drinking Tuak after offering the Guest of Honors

Guest of Honors for the Opening Ceremony: Genziana and Lars Krutak which maybe after tasting the Tuak... (‐^▽^‐)オーホッホ

Before going for refreshment area: Joint-venture at one of the booth

('It's here' in Japanese: I'm talking about Miami Ink look-alike... LOL)

After that, we go for refreshment area(which located kind of far away from the usual site... but that's ok...) Not much crowd at that time so we took our time to chat and the get-to-know session begins.

Thanks to the Organizer.!!!

Anyways, after that, another round of booth-visiting, some photo - taking before stopping for Lars Krutak video shows. Today it's about his adventure to find Kalinga Tribe in the Philippines.

When I was a little girl - I took part in Maori dance, the Poi Dance... and fall in love with it and then my childhood best friend, Wendy, taught me Ngajat dance (it's Iban tribe dance) but then I grow up in line with the modern world and forget about it...

It's all started back in 2001 (or 2000.. I can't remember) when my Bidayuh friend brought me to his village for Gawai Celebration (Harvest Festival) - my first exposure to other culture. The first ritual I've attended was about Gawia Sowa - I was told that this ritual would be extinct in near future because less elderly people who still practise animism left at his kampung (village) - they're called tukang gawai (shaman) and dayung borih (female shamans). During that time, few villages already stopped holding Gawia Sowa due to limited tukang gawai anymore. Furthermore, there's impossible for every kampung to do Gawia Sowa all at the same date or even time because the only way for each kampung to have these sacred rituals are by borrowing or hired these special people. (okay... out topic - just to reminiscence the good old days) Ever since I'm really into the culture. I just love to see and experience it - using the greatest camera ever... Canon DSLR my own eyes!

Part of it, I love tattoo... but not because I want to have it tattooed on my body but because of the art, the skill and sometimes the stories behind each tattoo... It's not easy to do it without a steady hand and a creative mind.

The first tattoo convention I have had attended was Borneo International Tattoo Convention 2002 (if I'm not mistaken around 1st - 5th May 2002) at Sarawak Cultural Village. It's so nice, really colourful, really laid-back! I remembered seeing an ancient blessing ceremony to start the event which involved the food offering, the sacrifice of a rooster, ngajat performance, Iban war dance, and much loved by attendees for sure - tuak, Sarawak's home-brewed rice wine. It's not just about a tattoo - more like an exhibition of culture. Really superb... I'm still smiling just by thinking about those days!

Anyhow, I've missed attending the second Borneo International Tattoo Convention in 2007 due to work and the over-protective boyfriend location of the convention (held in Sibu). Until then, I've been waiting for the next tattoo convention and hopefully will be located somewhere around Kuching this time.

Thank you to Sarawak Bloggers for the opportunity - Gathering Of Tribes 2011 was held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on January 14 - 16.

Still trying to convince even though I've got it already... hahaha
I love this poster...

My 3day pass and Opening Ceremony ticket... yay~!!
